A 20-year-old Liberty Lake woman is working hard to recover from severe injuries she suffered in a head-on car crash on I-90 six weeks ago, according to a recent news report from KXLY.
The woman, who was 19 when the accident occurred, was driving west on I-90 when another driver hit her car head-on. Police estimate that the crash involved all the force of vehicles driving 120 miles per hour. The other driver, a 73-year-old man, died instantly. The injured woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center for multiple surgeries to repair her shattered pelvis, legs, and right arm.
The woman does not remember the accident, nor does she know why the other driver was traveling the wrong way on I-90 that night. However, she says she is grateful for her own second chance. Currently, she is focusing on the long road to recovery by practicing moving herself from her bed to her wheelchair. Her goal is to get strong enough to walk again, which her doctors indicate she may still be able to do despite the multiple metal plates and screws inserted into her bones to repair the damage from the accident.
