According to a Q13 Fox news report, the motorcycle accident happened in Renton on Lind Avenue SW. Officials say the head-on collision happened when a Subaru Outback was starting to make a turn. The motorcycle officer suffered bone fractures and will need surgery. It’s unclear if the driver of the Subaru will face charges. Investigators don’t suspect that alcohol or drugs lead to the crash.
It’s unknown if the officer was driving with his emergency lights on. Under Washington Statute 46.61.210, when an emergency vehicle is using audio and visual signals: “The driver of every other vehicle shall yield the right-of-way and- shall stop and remain in such position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed.”
Drivers who don’t yield to emergency vehicles can face citations from the police and legal responsibility for injuries they cause. If you’re injured on the job, you may be able to seek workers’ compensation benefits. This type of support should cover medical bills and a portion of lost wages. Support may be available through civil litigation against the at-fault driver.
If the other driver involved failed to yield or caused the crash through an act of negligence, financial support may be available for:
- Pain and suffering
- Time away from work
- Cost of rehabilitation
- Other related damages
If you’ve been injured on the job, DO NOT assume that you will get the support you need.
