Entitled to Compensation After a Lyft Accident? Find Out at (888) 228-3860

As a cheaper alternative to taxi cabs, ridesharing services such as Lyft, Uber, and Sidecar have become all the rage in recent years. These Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) connect available drivers to passengers through a smart phone application (app). As with any emerging technology, local municipalities have had to scramble to come up with new laws to govern TNCs. Unfortunately, this regulation shuffle sometimes leaves basic questions of safety, insurance and responsibility unanswered. While most of these company's provide some type of assistance or insurance in the event of an accident, in some instances the response falls dramatically short of what is needed.

Does Lyft Have Insurance Coverage in Washington?

Currently, Lyft provides a $1 million liability policy for its drivers. This coverage begins when the driver accepts a ride request and continues through the end of the ride when the passenger is dropped off. This coverage is per driver, per incident, not for the company as a whole. In addition, Lyft provides a contingent liability policy for up to $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage. Additionally, all Lyft drivers must undergo a background check and a vehicle inspection. Drivers with felony convictions, DUIs in the last seven years, or more than three moving violations in the last three years are not allowed to drive for Lyft. The vehicle itself must be a 2000 or newer model.

What if There Is a Lyft Accident in Washington?

The first thing a Lyft driver will do is call Lyft's emergency number to report the accident. Lyft's Trust and Safety Team will immediately contact you. If you feel you are injured, ask the driver to call 911. If they are unable to do so or simply refuse, do not hesitate to call the authorities yourself. If there has been significant damage, consider documenting both the scene and your injuries.
