Bicyclist Injured in Seattle Crash
A man was injured in a Seattle car accident when a white Toyota Prius struck his bicycle. According to a KIRO-TV news report, the bicycle accident occurred on Third Avenue at James Street in downtown Seattle. Officials say the car struck his bicycle, but they have not released information regarding who may have been at fault. He was bleeding from his head when medics arrived but was able to sit up on his own. It is unclear how hurt he was or if the driver will face a citation for the accident.
Bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers of other vehicles. So, when a bicycle accident occurs at a Seattle intersection, it must be determined if the driver or the bicyclist caused the crash through an act of negligence. Investigators will often look into if the driver failed to yield to the bike rider or if there was a bike lane intrusion on the part of the driver.
If you have been hurt in a Seattle bicycle accident, it may be in your best interest to stay abreast of the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, it is also advisable to seek medical attention and to keep records of the losses you have suffered since the crash. Keep a folder with all of your medical bills and proof of lost wages. Start a journal that documents your daily struggles since the accident as well. If you choose to pursue compensation for your pain and suffering later on, you will need to prove the extent of your losses.
If you choose to file a personal injury claim against the driver responsible for your injuries, you will need to prove that his or her negligence contributed to the crash. If successful, you should be offered support for your current and future medical bills, lost wages, pain, suffering, the cost of rehabilitation services and other related damages.
It is unlikely, however, that you will be offered fair compensation for all of your losses without a fight. That is why it is advisable to discuss your rights and options with a skilled Seattle bicycle accident attorney who can guide you through the legal process and help ensure that your rights are protected.
