A driver pulled his passenger from his burning car after a recent crash on Interstate 5 in Washington near Federal Way, according to The Sacramento Bee. Rescue workers present at the scene say that the driver’s actions likely saved the life of the passenger.

The crash occurred just before 4 a.m., when passersby called in an accident and a burning vehicle near the concrete barrier on Interstate 5. Rescue workers rushed to the scene of the Washington freeway crash, where they discovered two seriously injured people and a vehicle engulfed in flames. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle had struck a concrete junction box and subsequently caught fire.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, had climbed out of the wreckage and rushed to help his 29-year-old passenger, despite serious leg injuries, according to witnesses. The passenger suffered severe internal injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remains in serious condition. The driver was also treated for his injuries.

Vehicle fires can result from car accidents that damage the vehicle’s fuel system or create other problems that may lead to a fire or explosion. Defective vehicle parts or repairs can also cause a fire. Regardless of the cause, vehicle fires can cause serious burns, as well as damage from smoke inhalation.
