Four Car Washington DUI Accident Claims the Life of Navy Veteran

On Behalf of | Dec 1, 2015 | Drunk Driving Accident

By Pendergast Law on December 1, 2015

A four-vehicle pile-up believed to have been caused by an impaired driver has claimed the life of a local Navy veteran.

The 71-year-old veteran, a Belfair resident, was rear-ended on State Route 16. The impact forced the veteran’s vehicle into oncoming traffic, causing a head-on collision with another vehicle.

The other driver involved in the accident, a 30-year-old Fircrest man, currently faces a vehicular manslaughter charge in connection with the crash. According to the state police, the man confessed to drinking and driving, and smelled of alcohol when confronted at the scene.

Police did not say whether anyone else was injured at the scene of the accident. However, at least three of the four vehicles involved appear in news reports to have been totaled.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about 10,000 drunk driving accidents occur each year nationwide. These accidents claim an average of 11,000 lives every year.  Although drivers and passengers are more likely to die in accidents where one driver’s blood alcohol concentration is over the legal limit of 0.08%, about 2,000 people die each year in accidents where the highest blood alcohol level recorded is under the legal limit.

Multiple-vehicle accidents can pose complex questions involving who caused the crash, what factors resulted in injury, and who can be held accountable. At Hardwick & Pendergast, P.S. our experienced Seattle car accident lawyers focus on getting our clients the full and fair compensation they deserve. Contact us today to learn more.
