Head-On Gig Harbor Crash Leaves One Dead and One Injured

A Gig Harbor woman lost her life and a passenger in her vehicle suffered injuries when the car they were riding was involved in a Washington head-on crash on State Route 302 recently, according to an article in The News-Tribune.

According to the Washington State Patrol, which responded to the accident scene, the woman and her teenage passenger were heading westbound on Route 302 near the 144th Street Northwest intersection. The accident occurred around 8:00 pm as a pickup truck heading the opposite direction crossed the center line and hit the Gig Harbor pair’s vehicle head-on.

Rescue workers fought to save the life of the 51-year-old woman at the scene, but were unable to do so. Her passenger, a teenager, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, a 63-year-old man from Vaughn, was also taken to a hospital for treatment and then kept in police custody while police investigated whether or not he was intoxicated at the time of the crash. If so, he may face vehicular homicide charges, say state troopers.

Car accidents take thousands of lives in the United States each year. Although improved safety equipment in cars and increased awareness of the importance of safe and sober driving have helped decrease the accident rates, too many Washington families still lose loved ones in auto accidents. Many of these accidents could have been avoided were it not for another driver’s negligence.
