Teenagers Severely Injured in Puyallup DUI Crash

Five teenage girls between the ages of 15 and 17 were injured in a Washington car accident involving underage drinking. According to a news report in The Seattle Times, the crash occurred along Highway 167 north of Puyallup. Officials say the 17-year-old driver may have been under the influence when she struck a power pole, trees, and a fence. The driver sustained minor injuries. One passenger suffered a broken arm and the rest of the passengers sustained bumps and bruises. The driver faces charges of vehicular assault and drunk driving.

A recent King 5 News article reminds all parents to speak with their teenagers about the dangers of driving drunk, especially since spring break is now under way. It is common during this time of year to see a significant spike in teenage DUIs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that 31 percent of teen drivers involved in fatal accidents are impaired. In the state of Washington, one out of every 10 high school senior has admitted to drinking and driving.
