Seattle Burn Injury FAQ

By Pendergast Law on April 22, 2016

Burn injuries are among the most expensive and difficult injuries to treat, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  If you’ve suffered a serious burn injury, below are some questions you may find yourself asking:

What kinds of injuries “count”as burn injuries?

The category “burn injury”includes more than just burns from heat sources.  It also covers burns caused by electricity, scalding burns from hot steam, and chemical burns from exposure to noxious chemicals or fumes.  All of these sources can cause injuries to tissue classified as burn injuries.

Are there any long-term injury risks after a burn injury?

Burn injuries can do extensive damage to skin, nerve endings, muscle, and even bone.  As the injury heals, the patient’s risk of infection is higher, since damaged skin is less able to protect the body from viruses and bacteria.  Even when the injury is fully healed, the injured person may have lifelong scarring, disfigurement, and nerve pain near the injury site if the burn is severe.  Third or fourth degree burns may also require amputation of the affected limb in order to save the patient’s life.

I think my injury was caused by someone else’s negligence.  What should I do?

Defective products, car accidents that cause a fire, workplace carelessness – all these can easily result in a serious burn injury.  If you or a close family member is injured and you suspect that someone else is at fault, talk to an experienced Seattle burn injury lawyer.
