Woman Killed in Seattle Motorcycle Crash

On Behalf of | Dec 21, 2015 | Motorcycle Accidents

A man has been charged with vehicular homicide after being involved in a fatal motorcycle accident while allegedly under the influence of methamphetamine. According to a Seattle Times news report, the fatal motorcycle crash happened in Burien.

Police say the 25-year-old White Center man was under the influence when he sped into oncoming traffic on a stolen motorcycle with his 26-year-old girlfriend. She was killed in the accident. He was charged with vehicular homicide, felony hit-and-run, reckless driving, and second-degree taking a motor vehicle without permission.

Under Washington State RCW 46.61.520, vehicular homicide is “when the death of any person ensues within three years as a proximate result of injury proximately caused by the driving of any vehicle by any person . . . under the influence of intoxicating liquor or any drug.”

Seattle drivers can face serious criminal penalties for causing crashes while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. But, a conviction for vehicle homicide will not automatically result in financial compensation for the family of the victim.

People who’ve lost loved ones in a Seattle car accident can pursue compensation for their tragic losses by filing a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver.

A wrongful death claim can result in financial support for:

  • Medical expenses that resulted from the crash
  • Funeral and burial costs
  • Lost wages the victim would have earned
  • Pain and suffering
  • Loss of consortium
  • Loss of inheritance and benefits

If you have lost a loved one in a Seattle traffic accident, filing a lawsuit may be the last thing on your mind. But, filing a wrongful death claim may be the only way to receive fair compensation for your tragic loss.

A wrongful death attorney can review your case and help you identify and determine the best legal options for you and your family. Let Hardwick & Pendergast, P.S. help.
