By Pendergast Law on May 19, 2015

A 55-year-old man was seriously injured in a Seattle car accident when a wrong-way driver struck his motorcycle. According to a KOMO news report, the motorcycle crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Highway 99 near Safeco Field in Seattle during the early morning hours of May 15, 2015. Officials say the motorcyclist was traveling north when a southbound car struck him head-on. He suffered life-threatening injuries. The woman behind the wheel of the car was arrested by the authorities, but it is unclear what caused the crash or what charges she may face.

Motorists are required by law to remain on their side of the road. Under Washington statute 46.61.150: “Whenever any highway has been divided into two or more roadways…every vehicle shall be driven only upon the right-hand roadway.” Motorists who cross over into oncoming traffic can face traffic citations and be held liable for any damages they cause.

There are many reasons why a driver may veer, drift, turn or drive into oncoming traffic. Head-on collisions often involve drivers who are distracted, fatigued, impaired or speeding. These types of accidents can also result from mechanical malfunctions and dangerous roadway conditions. Whatever the cause, it is important that injured victims are provided support for their injuries.

Wrong-way accidents often result in serious and even fatal injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, multiple bone fractures, spinal cord injuries and internal organ trauma. If you or a loved one has been hurt in a head-on collision, it is important that you understand your legal rights and options. Financial support may be available for your medical bills, pain and suffering, lost future wages, the cost of rehabilitation services, and other related damages.

A Seattle car accident attorney at Hardwick & Pendergast, P.S. can review your case while staying abreast of the ongoing investigation. Many injured victims find that proving liability and receiving fair compensation can prove challenging even when it is clear who was responsible for the crash. Make sure your rights are protected and that you receive support for all of your current and future losses.
