Just How Tough Is It to Become an NADC Attorney? (And Why Should I Want One?)

Attorneys are getting awards all the time, aren’t they? (Not necessarily.) Why should I care that my legal advocate is listed in Super Lawyers®, or named “Top 100 Litigation Lawyers,” or rated a perfect “10” on Avvo?

Let’s answer that question with another question. Would you rather have a heart surgeon who has received the American Surgical Association’s Medallion of Achievement … or one who hasn’t?

We agree.

A lawyer’s awards are living proof that he’s doing a good job for his clients and community. The fact that Joseph Pendergast III of Hardwick & Pendergast, P.S., was chosen for the National Association of Distinguished Counsel’s 2017 list of Nation’s Top Attorneys is an honor, and we want to share exactly why.

How Hard Is It to Become an NADC Member?

You have to be a lawyer. You have to be a very good lawyer who gets results. Here’s how the National Association of Distinguished Counsel finds the top attorneys in the nation:

  1. Nomination. Either NADC chooses the candidate itself, or he is nominated by another NADC member, attorney, or client. Needless to say, nomination is only the first step, and guarantees nothing.
  1. Vetting. NADC’s in-house research team reviews all the information available about the attorney. They look at: reputation, years of practice, education, training, trial experience, case outcomes, peer endorsements, client reviews, professional awards, professional memberships, leadership in legal organizations, community involvement, disciplinary status, and other noteworthy achievements. Lots of factors go into making this decision.
  1. Studying. A “blue-ribbon” panel of attorneys involved with multiple prestigious organizations considers the in-house research. Who would best exemplify a truly elite attorney? Who could other attorneys look up to as an example?
  1. Decision. This is where it “gets real.” The remaining candidates who have survived the previous three stages are considered by a judicial review board — led by a group of former judges. They want stellar reputation. They want exceptional performance. They want, in short, the very qualities that would qualify this person to be an Officer of the Court himself — virtue.

When it’s all said and done and the dust settles, only 1% of attorneys in the entire United States will be members of the National Association of Distinguished Counsel. Out of an estimated 1.3 million lawyers in the country.

That’s why we congratulate Joseph Pendergast III for receiving this prestigious honor!
