We never get tired of cheering when Seahawks football season comes around, and this year is no different! We also never tire of is making sure our friends and neighbors in the Seattle community enjoy the football season safely when taking in a game at CenturyLink Field. In order to help ensure your safety and enjoyment during game day, we have put together some tips to help you avoid an accident or injury at the game.

Slippery Floors – Watch Out!

You can help avoid being injured while attending football games by following these tips:

  • Watch your step in or near restrooms, food concession areas, and on stairs or walkways – as it is common for spills to create slipping hazards. The floors can be dangerous for walking as most sports fans consume beverages, along with food that is commonly dropped or spilled. Dropped food or a spilled drink can pose a serious slip and fall hazard to fans.
  • Do not sit, lean, or stand on handrails or guardrails. Watch out for younger and smaller members of your party who may try to squeeze through bars!
  • When exiting, be careful not to push into tightly squeezed areas where you cannot see the stairs and could tripped or pushed in error. This can lead to a dangerous fall. Be aware of the number of people who are filling out of the stands and into stairwells and exits. Pedestrian traffic jams can cause tensions to rise, with some fans becoming impatient as they try to exit the arena. Negative encounters are more likely – particularly with fans who have consumed too much alcohol.

A slip-and-fall or trip-and-fall accident in a stadium can turn an exciting sports experience into a disaster. The injuries can have long-lasting impacts on you and your family. At Pendergast Law, it’s our goal to help you avoid potential injury. Some of the most common injuries sustained in slip and fall include:

  • Sprains and strains of your ankle, wrist, hand, or arm
  • Fractures of your wrist or ankle from trying to stop your fall
  • Cuts and lacerations
  • Back or spinal cord injuries
  • Long-term or permanent disability
  • Head and brain injuries

Who Is Responsible If You Are Hurt At A Stadium?

You may think the stadium is responsible for your injuries, but every personal injury case has a unique set of circumstances. When you buy a ticket, have noticed small print on the back? That is a liability waiver that stadiums utilize as an attempt to limit their liability or to prevent litigation. This waiver states that you are responsible for your own safety while at a stadium, but these waivers are not always enforceable and there are common exceptions. If a serious injury occurs, it must be proven that the stadium owners or operators failed to meet the standards of providing a safe environment, and it may be possible to recover compensation. You need to speak with a personal injury lawyer about your case to determine how to best move forward with legal action.
