3 tips for holiday driving

On Behalf of | Nov 15, 2023 | Car Accidents

Traveling for holiday festivities is common, resulting in increased roadway traffic. Because of this, all drivers must be more vigilant as they head out on the road.

There are several things to consider if you’re traveling to spend time with friends and family members. Remember, the goal is to make it safely to your destination and back home.

1: Plan for busy travel

With the increased traffic on the road, you’ll need to allow yourself extra time to get to your destination. Leaving a bit earlier than usual is beneficial because it’s much safer to wait a little bit once you’re there than trying to rush to make it on time.

2: Minimize distractions

Distractions are always possible when you’re driving, but the excitement of the holidays might increase the distraction for drivers. For example, children might be hyper because of everything going on. Considering other distractions like cell phones and billboards, this can easily distract the driver.

3: Consider the effects of the festivities

After spending time with family and friends, you may be tired. Driving while fatigued is dangerous, so be sure you avoid doing that. The same is true for drunk driving, so be sure you don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking.

While you may drive safely throughout the holiday season, your safety is still partially at the mercy of other drivers. If a negligent motorist strikes you, you may seek compensation for the financial damages you’re dealing with. Washington law sets strict time limits for these cases, so act swiftly.
